Hiking Trails

There are a number of well-defined trails running through camp and range in difficulty from the 2 hour hike up Mount Bluff (534 metres in elevation) to a nice level ramble down the main road in camp to the back country.

The Lake Trail circles Young Lake.  Start from Young Lake Road near the bridge as you enter camp or start from Thompson Field just past the shelter.  Can be very wet in winter and early spring.  A large raft ferries hikers across the end of the lake.  Fun!!  Mid to late April is a great time to take in thewild flowers along this trail!

Camp Barnard also makes a good jumping-off point for neighbouring hiking opportunities: Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, Westcoast Trail, Sooke Pot Holes, French Beach, China Beach, and much more.
